What genre(s) were you drawn to when you were younger? Was there a reason that genre(s) appealed to you the most? 

I read all the science fiction and fantasy I could get my hands on!

What were some of your favorite books growing up? Why?  

Lord of the Rings, of course, dark children's books like Watership Down, and non-fiction science books like Cosmos from Carl Sagan.

What are some of your favorite books today?

Anything by KJ Charles, and I recently read Ta-Nehisi Coates The Message, which was fantastic non-fiction.

What inspired you to become a writer? 

I wanted to write a special story for my daughters when they were younger and then I just kept going.

 

On Rifts Edge: Riftworld Series Book 2.0 (Feb 2025)

To save Lyall, Kat needs to stop falling for bad boys—and start acting like one.  On A Rift’s Edge is a MM paranormal romance with a cinnamon-roll veterinary assistant and the ‘touch him and die’ hellhound assassin who’ll do anything to protect him

Tell us a little about how “On Rifts Edge” came to be. Did it start with an image, a voice, a concept, a dilemma or something else? 

The Riftworld series started from an idea I had in 2020, about the concept of people adjusting to a cataclysmic event. I thought, what if there was a Monster Apocalypse and everyone got used to it?  On a Rift's Edge is a sequel to my first book in the series, Rifted Hearts, and it's also set on a dude ranch that's next to a monster portal.

Which scene, character or plotline changed the most from first draft to published book? 

An entire character that I didn't plan to write about for another two or three books hopped into the plot and stayed there. He did that literally--the character is based on a pet frog.

Which character was the most challenging to create. Why?  

Kat was more difficult, because I had to create his whole family to annoy, nag, and support him. He also starts off with low self-esteem, and it took effort to show his transformation over the arc of the story.

What do you like best about being a writer? 

I love jumping into a story and have new ideas and characters come to life on the page.

If you could collaborate with any author past or present, who would it be? What would the title of the book be? (If possible) - Give us a one sentence blurb.  

I'd love to hang out with Mary Shelley and work on a spooky book. "We could call it "The Last Monster", a dystopian gothic romance.
