On to the Showcase!
What name do you like to write under? Lisa D'Elana-Borges
Where do you call home? Warren, Rhode Island
What genre(s) do you write? My first book was a memoir but right now I'm focusing on Children's books
What genre(s) were you drawn to when you were younger? Was there a reason that genre(s) appealed to you the most?
There was nothing I didn't read. I would read everything I could get my hands on. As an adult I mostly enjoy biographies and auto biographies
What were some of your favorite books growing up? Why?
My favorite books growing up was the Trixie Belden series, as I just loved they mischief and mystery and of course the S.E. Hinton classic The Outsiders, that was the first book I ever read that brought me to tears.
What are some of your favorite books today?
Some of my favorite books I've read lately are Rob Lowe's Stories I only Tell My Friends, In Pieces by Sally Fields, Always Young and Restless by Melody Thomas Scott and I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of From Here to the Great Unknown by Lisa Marie Presley
What inspired you to become a writer?
I have always loved to read and write but one day while I was in the middle of a Tori Spelling book I said to myself, here I am reading everyone else's story.... I have stories to tell also and I just started writing. I get a lot of inspiration from my three year old granddaughter.
Max and Molly’s Big Move
Max and Molly's dad has a big surprise and they are about to learn that their world is about to change. As they leave old friends and make new ones, Max and Molly experience a range of emotions and learn how to make the best of a new situation
Tell us a little about how “Max and Molly’s Big Move” came to be. Did it start with an image, a voice, a concept, a dilemma or something else?
Max and Molly were inspired by my friends grandmother who drew pictures of aliens. After chatting with her about her artwork I was inspired to create a story about an alien family moving to earth. I was also inspired to team up with a charity called Our Military Kids to donate a portion of the proceeds. Military families are always on the move so I thought that would be a great tie in.
Which scene, character or plotline changed the most from first draft to published book?
I knew from beginning to end how this story would go so there were really no big changes however the changes are yet to come because we are creating a series with these characters so there will be some changes going forward
Which character was the most challenging to create. Why?
Max and Molly were my challenge as I wanted to create characters that were of interest to both boys and girls so I decided to make them twins and with the upcoming series both little boys and little girls will come to love them.
What do you like best about being a writer?
The best part of being a writer is meeting people, inspiring people and and watching children fall in love with characters. Everybody has a story to tell and I love telling my stories
If you could collaborate with any author past or present, who would it be? What would the title of the book be? (If possible) - Give us a one sentence blurb.
I would love to team up with Danielle Steele and write a book called "Postcards" A young woman finds a postcard of love at an antique store and goes on a quest to find the person that it was meant for eventually finding her true love.
