On to the Showcase!

What name do you like to write under?  Courtney Carter DeJesus

Where do you call home? Warwick, RI

What genre(s) do you write? Children’s

What genre(s) were you drawn to when you were younger Was there a reason that genre(s) appealed to you the most? I was drawn to suspense/thrillers when I was younger.

What are some of your favorite books today? Magic lessons-Alice Hoffman

What inspired you to become a writer?  I am a big reader so I developed a curiosity over the years for wanting to write my own.

Eva the Kid Reporter

Come along on Eva's adventure as she finds out how being yourself is the best gift of all. Eva is a little girl whose big, curly hair matches her big appetite for answers. She is curious, asks a lot of questions and talks a lot. Everyone from her babysitter to her classmates try to stop her from asking so many questions, but she just can't seem to help it! She starts to feel like maybe she should change who she is, until she watches her favorite program, the evening news, and sees a new reporter on the screen that looks JUST like her. From the reporter's curly hair, to the reporter asking questions all the time to find the answers, Eva starts to realize they have a lot in common...and she may not need to change who she is after all!

Tell us a little about how "Eva the Kid Reporter”  came to be. Did it start with an image, a voice, a concept, a dilemma or something else?  I used to be a reporter and had little girls and boys come up to me asking how to be a reporter, this book was inspired by that! Also my own daughter Eva whose spunk, talkative nature and questions she asks, reminds me of myself as a little girl.

Which scene, character or plotline changed the most from first draft to published book? How Eva learns to stay true to herself

Which character was the most challenging to create. Why? The reporter Eva looks up to! Because she is who Eva looks up to, I had to make it good.

What do you like best about being a writer? The creativity of being able to have something in your head and then putting it down on paper and seeing it come to life.

If you could collaborate with any author past or present, who would it be? What would the title of the book be? (If possible) - Give us a one sentence blurb. Stephen King probably, he’s one of the greats! I would definitely collaborate on a thriller.
